Terms of use: the rules that govern this site

Last updated October 2026. The basics of using this website.

These are starter terms for Best Rated Company. They’re written plainly, but they are not legal advice, so please have a solicitor review them before relying on them.

About our listings

We list up to three businesses per trade in each town. A Verified badge means a business passed three checks when we last looked: we looked it up online, rang the business, and the business confirmed its listing through a link we emailed to it. We do not check insurance, audit accounts or finances, inspect work, or guarantee any job, and we cannot guarantee the work, conduct or availability of any business you find here. A listing without a Verified badge is marked as not yet verified and is not a recommendation.

Any agreement you enter into with a listed business is strictly between you and that business. Always satisfy yourself directly, including confirming current insurance and pricing, before hiring anyone.

Listing your business

We list UK businesses with a real base in the UK and their own website, showing their phone number and email address, that give customers an honest, useful service, locally or, for a business that only sells online, across the UK. An online-only business must have its own website and send its orders from the UK. We do not list dropshipping shops that send goods from abroad; essay, assignment or dissertation writing for students; peptides, fat-loss or weight-loss drugs and injections, or other "research" substances; gambling or betting; adult services; selling reviews, followers or links; trading signals, crypto or other get-rich-quick schemes; payday or high-cost loans; call-centre, dialler or lead-generation services; selling or "securing" visa appointments; other directories, comparison sites or listing platforms; fake or "novelty" documents; national chains; or businesses based outside the UK. We may turn down an application, or remove a listing, that we reasonably believe does not meet this or that could mislead customers.

Listing is free and stays free for as long as your business passes our checks. Whether a business is listed, and whether it gets a Verified badge, are our decisions, made by the same checks for everyone. A listing is not guaranteed: there must be a place free in your trade and town. You can ask us to update or remove your listing at any time, and a request made through your confirmation link removes it from the site straight away.

If you add our Verified badge to your own website, please use the code we give you without changing the image or its wording. The image shows your current status, so it changes by itself if your listing stops being Verified. We may ask you to remove the badge if it is used in a way that could mislead.

Featured listings

Featured is an optional paid service for businesses that are already listed and Verified. It runs for 12 months from the start date we agree and does not renew automatically. It adds a labelled card on our home and browse pages and, below the listings, on other trade and town pages in the same town; extra details on the listing such as photos, a longer description, services, opening hours and social links; and a monthly email with the views and clicks the listing received. The price is agreed before you pay.

Featured never buys a place, a Verified badge or a higher position on a trade and town page, and we cannot promise enquiries, website traffic or search rankings from it. Every Featured listing is labelled, and links that exist because of a Featured listing are marked as paid links for search engines.

A Featured business must keep passing our checks. If its Verified badge lapses, the Featured extras pause until it is rechecked, and the time is added back. If we remove a listing because it no longer passes our checks, or you ask us to cancel, we refund the whole months that remain. Featured listings are a service between businesses.

How listings are shown

The order of businesses on each trade and town page changes every day and is the same for everyone. A business counts as affiliated if Adrian owns or runs it, someone in his household runs it, or he has a financial interest in it, including being paid to work on it. Affiliated businesses are labelled, shown separately, never given a Verified badge or Featured, and do not take one of the places. Businesses run by other relatives go through the same three checks as everyone else.
