A place in your trade and town
Your business on the page for your trade and town, alongside up to two other checked businesses.
Free US business directory
A free US business directory with verified listings
Best Rated Company lists small and medium-sized US businesses for free, up to three in each trade and town. A Verified badge means a business has passed three checks: an online look-up, a phone call and an email confirmation. Listings without one say so.
For business owners
List your business free. We check it, then we show it.
Small and medium-sized businesses are welcome, new or established. You do not need reviews, a limited company or a finished website. You need a phone number we can ring and an email address you read.
Your details and a website link
Your phone number if you want it shown, a link to your website and a short description of what you do.
A Verified badge
Pass our three checks and your listing shows a Verified badge, with a version you can add to your own website.
Free, and it stays free
No trial and no renewal fee. We recheck every two years, so the badge keeps its meaning.
What we cannot promise. We cannot guarantee enquiries, website traffic or a Google ranking. A checked listing helps customers trust you, and it works best alongside your own Google Business Profile.
What we check
Three checks, the same for everyone.
A business gets a Verified badge only after it passes all three. Here is exactly what each one involves.
We look them up online
We look the business up online: its website, its public reviews, good and bad, and anything worrying. A new business with little online yet is fine.
We ring the business
We ring the business during working hours, after emailing it to say we will, and it presses 1 to confirm. A mobile number gets a text instead, and the business replies YES.
The business confirms by email
We email the address on the listing. The business opens the link and approves its listing, or asks us to remove it.
Find a business
Browse by trade and town.
Pick a trade or a town, or use the search at the top of the page. A Verified badge means a business has passed our three checks. If a listing does not have one, it says so.

Why a short list
A short list beats a long one.
A directory of everyone is just another search page. We would rather show you a few businesses and tell you exactly what we checked.
The internet is full of reviews that were bought, swapped or written by the business itself, and it is hard to tell which are which. So we do not try to rank everyone. We set three simple checks, run them ourselves, and list up to three businesses per trade in each town.
The order on each page changes every day, and nobody can pay to move up it. We list local, independent firms rather than national chains, so you can speak to the person who runs the business.
